At the Small Business Solutions Hub on July 17th, two local workforce leaders will share practical strategies that address both sides of today's talent challenge.
First, Willamalane Park and Recreation District's Deputy Director for Recreation and Community Services, Kenny Weigandt, will share how an innovative approach to recruiting lifeguards transformed one of the organization's toughest hiring challenges, and the lessons any employer can apply to attract better candidates.
Next, leadership consultant and business owner Christine Silver (Silver Business Solutions) will build on that conversation by exploring how effective business coaching helps employees become more engaged, confident, and committed, leading to stronger retention and better workplace performance.
Whether you're trying to fill open positions, strengthen your culture, or develop the employees you already have, you'll leave with practical ideas you can put to work immediately.

THE PRESENTERS
Christine West Silver: Owner, Silver Business Solutions
After 12 years in Human Resources, swimming in policies and compliance, Christine was ready for something different. She craved real conversations about people, growth, and leadership. Then came the light-bulb moment: a workshop with a management consultant. The second he started facilitating, she thought, That. That’s what I want to do. One mentor (and one brave leap) later, she ditched the corporate grind and built a reputation as a no-nonsense facilitator and coach. Her specialty is performance management and she is trained as a mediator, teaching the skills and helping people resolve conflicts. Two decades and thousands of clients later, she’s still at it – helping leaders navigate the tough people stuff with practical, real-world solutions. Now based in Eugene, Oregon, Silver Business Solutions LLC supports small to midsize organizations in both the non- and for-profit sectors. Christine is also a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and an active member of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, volunteering as an Ambassador, a member of the Member Experience committee and the Greeters Fun committee.
Kenny Weigandt: Deputy Director for Recreation and Community Services, Willamalane
Kenny Weigandt joined Willamalane in 2018 and became the Deputy Director for Recreation and Community Services in 2025. He is a proud Oregon Duck and has a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He has about 18 years of experience in leadership, strategic planning, marketing, and communications in a variety of industries, but has found his true passion with parks and recreation. Kenny’s favorite pastimes include kayaking, running (slowly), hiking every inch of Willamalane’s trails, playing really sorry basketball, and spending time with his (wild and crazy) family.
