Nearby Nature's Haunted Hike

Meet Costumed Creatures of the Night at Nearby Nature’s Haunted Hike on October 19th! Curious about local night life? Wonder who’s tiptoeing through the treetops? Who’s crunching in the compost? If your kids like to pretend and they think night critters are cool, then they'll love Nearby Nature’s 28rd annual Haunted Hike on Saturday, October 19th, from 5:30-9 pm in Alton Baker Park! At this fun, family-oriented event, Nearby Nature guides will lead special night hikes along a festive pumpkin-lit trail in Alton Baker Park. On each hike, folks will encounter all sorts of furry and feathered creatures of the night in costume, from a sneaky spider to a wily raccoon. Back at the decorated picnic shelter, folks will have a hooting, howling good time creating crafts and playing games! Haunted Hike is free for Nearby Nature members and $25 per family for non-members. Pre-registration is required at nearbynature.org/registration. If you have questions, please call Nearby Nature at 541-687-9699. Each hike lasts about an hour and folks are encouraged to come early or stay after their scheduled hikes to enjoy the festivities. The hike is most fun for pre-school through elementary-aged kids, but adults love it too! Be sure to bring a flashlight and wear your walking shoes -- and suit up in your raingear if it’s a dark and stormy night. Haunted Hike happens rain or moonshine! Nearby Nature is a non-profit education group dedicated to fostering appreciation of nature nearby and providing tools for ecological living. The group’s staff and volunteers lead nature walks, outdoor youth programs, and park caretaking projects in local natural areas.
