Springfield Celebrates 19^th Annual Children’s Day, Book Day

Cultural performances, games, books, and free fun for the whole family!

Springfield, OR – Families across Springfield are invited to celebrate literacy, culture, and community at the 19th annual Children’s Day, Book Day celebration! This joyful, family-friendly event will take place on Friday, April 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Guy Lee Elementary School.

The celebration features live cultural performances by Springfield High School’s Mariachi del Sol and the vibrant local dance group Raíces de Oregon, hands-on children’s activities, games, a free light meal, and a free book for every child (while supplies last).

“There’s going to be something for everyone - from cultural performances to engaging kids’ activities and delicious food,” said Kristen Curé, Spanish Language Services Librarian. “We’re thrilled to bring the celebration back to Guy Lee Elementary, where we can uplift stories, languages, and cultures that make Springfield so special.”

About Children’s Day, Book Day:

Many countries around the world observe Children’s Day at the end of April or during the month of May. Since 1996, libraries across the United States have celebrated Children’s Day, Book Day at the end of April as a way to promote family literacy and celebrate all of the stories, languages and cultures of the children in our communities. Springfield has celebrated Children’s Day, Book Day since 2007 to come together and highlight the diversity of our families, promote literacy and uplift our children. Springfield’s celebrations always include cultural performances, fun kids’ activities and free books for youth.

Community Collaboration:

This event is presented through a vibrant partnership between Comunidad y Herencia Cultural, Eugene Arte Latino, Guy Lee Elementary, Guy Lee PTO and the Springfield Public Library. Additional support is provided by grants from the Springfield Arts Commission, Springfield Rotary, and the Spark Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.

El día de los niños, el día de los libros, ¡diversión para toda la familia!

¡Juegos, espectáculos culturales, premios y diversión!

Springfield, OR – Participe en la diversión de la decimonovena celebración anual del Día del Niño, Día del Libro, en Springfield. «Habrá algo para todos; desde actuaciones culturales hasta actividades para niños, comida y un libro gratis para cada joven que venga», dijo la Bibliotecaria de Servicios en Español Kristen Curé. «Estamos emocionados de estar de vuelta en la escuela de Inmersión Dual de Springfield, Guy Lee Elementary, para este alegre evento comunitario que celebra las historias, idiomas y culturas de nuestra comunidad». El Mariachi del Sol de Springfield High School y el grupo local de ballet folclórico Raíces de Oregón estarán entre los artistas.

La celebración se realizará en la escuela primaria Guy Lee de 5:30 a 7:30 p.m. el viernes 25 de abril y se invita a todas las familias. Acerca del Día del Niño, Día del Libro:

Muchos países del mundo celebran el Día del Niño a finales de abril o durante el mes de mayo.
