Volunteers needed at Willow Creek Preserve - Saturday, 8/19/2017
The Nature Conservancy in Oregon Volunteers Needed at Willow Creek Preserve Saturday, August 19th The Nature Conservancy invites those interested in protecting the native habitats of Willow Creek Preserve in Eugene to participate in a volunteer work party from 9:00 am until noon on Saturday, August 19th. Part of the West Eugene Wetlands project area, Willow Creek’s native prairies, ash woodlands and seasonal streams provide one of the best remaining examples of native wet prairie and associated wetland habitats in the Willamette Valley. More than 200 native plant, 100 bird and 25 butterfly species have been recorded on the 508-acre preserve, which also supports populations of four federally listed threatened or endangered species. During this event, volunteers will collect native wildflower seed for use in future prairie restoration. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the endangered Fender’s blue butterfly and prairie habitats in the Willamette Valley. Participants should bring sturdy shoes, a daypack with water and lunch/snacks, layers of clothing including long sleeves and pants (to protect from prickly plants), raingear, a hat, and sunscreen. Bring work gloves if you have them - if not, you can borrow ours. Reservations required: at nature.org/oregonworkparties. Questions?
